
First Steps for those taking up walking starting in April 2017

Our next FREE Walk Leader and Back Marker Training will be on the 27th April 2017 at Meeting Point House , Telford Centre from 10.00am to 4.00pm .
We are looking for volunteers who can offer about 2 hours per month to support and help out on our walks which are held throughout Telford. Our walks are designed to enable people to increase their physical health and wellbeing by walking. Our walks last for no more than 90 minutes.

Congratulations to Julie Burroughs, one of our walk leaders, who has won the Shropshire Star, Pride of Shropshire Environmental award for her work with Shropshire Wildlife Trust. She is on the extreme left of this picture. Julie leads the Apley Castle walk held on a Monday at 2.00pm why not come along and join her.

Britain’s biggest winter walking festival is back and everyone’s invited. It’s a great opportunity to get you and your friends walking with Walking for Health exploring Britain’s wintry landscapes. The festival will run from 17 December 2016 to 8 January 2017 . Walkabout Wrekin are part of this festival so check out which walk you would like to attend by looking at our Walks page. We will also be organising a walk of December 27th from the ASDA Donnington Wood, starting at 10.15am if you fancy walking off all the Christmas excess! Look forward to seeing you there.
Congratulations to Chris Turley, who has recently completed his Walk Leader Training and been awarded with his Walk Leader Certificate, clipboard and pen! Look forward to seeing you leading some of the walks Chris, well done.
Congratulations , to Dave Barnwell who won the Alf Clews Award for 2016. The Alf Clews award is presented annually to the Walk Leader or Walker who have supported and made a difference to Walkabout Wrekin.
Dave, has been a Walk Leader for Walkabout Wrekin for many years, he leads the Tuesday 2.00pm Stirchley walk and the Monday and Friday Town Park walk both starting at 2.00pm. Dave has also assisted the training team by leading a demonstration walk for the new walk leaders. Over the past 18 months Dave has lead a total of 127 walks , which equals 115 and half hours of volunteer. Congratulation Dave, well deserved!
