The next year

As previously announced Ramblers Walking for Health scheme will become Ramblers Wellbeing Walks during 2021.

We held a General Meeting of leaders, volunteers and walkers via Zoom on February 24th at 2 pm.  This was well attended and pleasant. We decided to go with the Ramblers new scheme for a year, but, during this year, there will be a working party to carefully plan an independent future, or to recommend staying with the Ramblers.

Please be assured that whichever way we go our walks will remain essentially the same.

Changes are Coming

Ramblers Walking for Health scheme will become Ramblers Wellbeing Walks during 2021. You can see the background to this here . Note this was revised on 19th February. We need to decide whether to stay with the Ramblers or become independent.

We are calling a General Meeting of leaders, volunteers and walkers to plan our next actions. The meeting will be on Zoom on February 24th at 2 pm.  Please confirm your attendance and obtain the link by emailing [email protected]  . If you can’t attend the meeting, please send your comments to the same email address

Wishing you a Happy Christmas and New Year

Greetings from all the committee.

For the second year, the Shawbirch group decided that, instead of sending each other cards, they would have a collection for the Severn Hospice which is on their patch. The picture shows Malcolm handing over the money (well, with a big wipe-off cheque for the same amount).  A win-win situation, good for the hospice, feels good for the walkers, good for publicity for them and us and good for the environment (as the appetite for printed cards diminishes). Well done Shawbirch. If we think in time next year, perhaps other walks would like to join in.

Walks able to restart from Wednesday December 2nd

We are pleased to be able to tell you that our walks can restart from Wednesday December 2nd.
Update: The only pre-lockdown walks that are not restarting are Stirchley on a Tuesday and Town Park on a Thursday (Monday and Friday are running) . All the others including Apley (pictured below) are definitely restarting.

Brief AGM Report

We had a successful, though different, AGM via Zoom on 17th November . Malcolm Skelton was awarded the Alf Clewes shield,  5 walk leaders were awarded certificates for their extra help during the summer , Iris Warnock, one of our older walkers, was awarded a certificate for her exploits  (walking the Telford T50 50 Mile Trail in sections, amongst other walks) .  Following Steve’s wish to relinquish the chair, we have a new chair, Naomi Wrighton, who thanked Steve for his stint as chair. Finally, Tristan Haynes gave a very interesting. talk on the Telford Woods project  https://www.smallwoods.org.uk/en/what-we-do/projects/telford-woods-2/
